Female terrier mix, 5.5 years and 52 lb of velveteen hippo. Vaccinated, spayed, microchipped.
Miss Nyla (or Miss Piggy as we sometimes call her) is the sweetest, most cuddly dog you’ll ever meet. When she’s not curling up next to you on the couch, she’s tucking herself into her bed with a blanket and having a good snore-filled snooze. Although she doesn’t go after household items that don’t belong to her, she definitely has a need to chew and destroy toys so the tougher the better! Due to her destruction with toys, she cannot have any toys with any sort of stuffing or soft fabric, it’s just too tempting of a snack! We’ve found extremely durable rubber toys, and deer antlers are the best to satisfy her chewing needs. All of the garbage cans in the house are coverless and she is completely trustworthy to not steal from them, although sometimes she needs a firm “no” if there’s meat wrapped in the kitchen one. She is learning not to jump on people when they come to the door, but she’s getting better everyday. We are also working on her pulling on the leash during walks. She is extremely strong, and has a tendency to pull hard if she’s particularly interested in something to sniff, or if she gets spooked by noises. She isn’t a vocal dog whatsoever, unless you count the loudset snores you’ll ever hear when she’s taking a nap. She is not dog, squirrel or cat reactive, but she is also not particularly interested in other animals; she prefers people company over the canine variety. Nyla’s fur is currently regrowing and so she likes to wear sweaters when it gets a bit too chilly for her. She’s even been known to bring one to us to put on her every once in a while. When she gets nervous or scared, her tendency is to either run away or shake so there’s no need to be nervous about her snapping in an aggressive way. She’s also not sensitive about her paws, tail, teeth, mouth or nose being touched, and she even readily climbed into the shower on one occasion, so bathing and vet visits should be no problem. If you want a pup who requires a 30-60 minute walk once a day, and spends the rest of the time sleeping and cuddling with you, she’s your girl.
