KURT

BREED:  Mix Breed

GENDER: Male

WEIGHT: 50 lbs.

AGE: 1.5 Years old

Kurt is 1.5 years old, 50 lb. and a male boxer mix.
Kurt has done great since we got him over a month ago. He came ribs-sticking-out skinny and scared of everything. He would hide from a friendly hand coming in to pet him and didn’t want to come out of hiding at times. Since then, he has gained confidence and weight and became a lively, lovely, playful, devoted, energetic puppy.
Kurt finished his 30-day treatment for Lyme and is doing wonderful. He had some accidents in the house at the beginning (good-bye diarrhea rug lol), but is now house-trained.
Personality wise, Kurt is a pure cuddle-bug! He is always snuggled-up against us and will leave only if there’s action in the kitchen. He loves paying/wrestling with his foster brother Odie and is very curious about other dogs. With most he just wants to meet and greet, but with a few select ones he tries to prove dominance. Still learning! Kurt would be great in a training class. Hasn’t met any cats.
He has good recall, unless another dog or human comes by. He does very well off-leash in a large safe open area we go hiking. He will explore 30-80 yards ahead, but always comes right back to check in with me before running ahead again. He will come back when called. He is not too bad on a leash and immediately stops pulling with correction and positive reinforcement.
We have maintained perfectly manicured nails with a dremel tool and if kept up, his cuticles will remain short enough where you can’t even hear him clink on the floor. He is also used to getting a bath.
Kurt knows a few basic commands, but needs more work. He is trained to sit and wait at a distance while we fill his bowl and to only approach the food when given the okay. At which point he inhales it and begs for more ðŸ™‚Recently, Kurt has gotten into the habit of bringing our shoes, one at a time, to the living room and just leaving them there. He doesn’t really chew or destroy them, but just loves to hoard them, lol. We have loads and loads of toys and he is not interested in them at all…unless they’re food related. He would much rather play with Odie outside or cuddle up with us on the couch.
Overall, he would be a great dog for someone that wants an extremely lovable and close companion that will lay snuggled up against them day and night. Ideally someone that has an enclosed yard or can take him out for runs since he has a lot of puppy energy and it takes quite a bit to tire him out. Someone that must be willing to patiently work with him with correction and positive reinforcement since he is still young and learning.
