Kelsey is an 8 year old female Rhodesian Ridgeback who came to K9Orphans from a puppy mill breeder who had no more use for her. She has spent the last few months decompressing and figuring out what it means to be a family dog, but she is finally ready to find her forever home! She loves walks, treats, butt and ear scratches … and tv remotes (so put those up out of reach!). She will also greet you with daily dance parties! You didn’t leave her! You came back! She can hardly contain her excitement.
Her background makes her tentative around new humans and she can be slow to warm up (though she seems more relaxed around men) but she does not discriminate in who she gets her butt and ear scratches from. She did excellent at Thanksgiving with her foster family, in a new environment, with strange people and kids (who were respectful enough to give her space when she needed it). She even took treats gently from their 8 year old niece. She sure has come a long way!
Kelsey is great with other dogs and would do best with a canine companion in the home. A fenced yard to safely chase those pesky squirrels in would be excellent as well. She has not been cat-tested, but she shows no interests in them when passing on walks so would likely do fine with a feline friend. Squirrels, on the other hand, do not belong in her backyard.
In the past few months, Kelsey has learned to love her walks and treats, and has even mastered those weird stair things. She is mild-mannered on a leash and will normally walk right next to you, looking for reassurance. She can be sensitive to loud noises, so a home on the quiet side with children past the screaming years would be ideal. Other than that, this girl is a gem and will make the right family very happy.
